Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 April 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the team event which made her and her co-teammate Gabby Douglas the only Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the all-around individual and floor exercise. She is the 3rd most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles who have won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also on the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in 2011. She was also two-time champion of the national team on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) she was the 2012 champion of the national team on balance beam and she has won five medals in the all-around at the national championships (silver in 2016, and bronze in 2012, 2011, and in 2015, bronze in 2010, 2011, and). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), the former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. She is the mother of three children, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and has said, "I take a lot of pride in being able to not just represent the U.S.A but also the Jewish community everywhere. Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months. She attributes her initial love for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she was able to watch on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through the level 8 stage, when she was transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year online classes , while preparing for the Olympics.
