Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January
2015) was an Swedish actress active in American and European films, known for
her beautiful and stunning body. Her fame was heightened by her character as
Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg worked
primarily in Italy and became an permanent resident in 1964.Anita Ekberg was
born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden), the eighth child in a family of eight.
Anita worked as a fashion model throughout her teens. As per the requests by
her mother, Ekberg participated in Miss Malmo in 1950. This resulted in her
being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she was crowned. Even though
she spoke very little English, Ekberg went to America to compete in the Miss
Universe 1951 title. It was an official pageant in the year 1951. The pageant
became official in 1952. Ekberg was not crowned the Miss Universe pageant.
However, she was one six finalists. Universal Studios offered her an
opportunity to be a starlet. She was an Universal starlet and received lessons
in dramatization and elocution dancing and horseback riding, fencing, and
elocution. She appeared briefly in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and
Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) and The Golden Blade (53).
